Acer introduces new Aspire series laptop line with the model 5942 and 8942. Both are equipped by the toughness of Intel Core i7, I5 or I3, with capacities reaching 8GB of DDR3 RAM memory. Acer Aspire 8942
18.4-inch screen size which is also embedded with an integrated graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD5850 with 1GB of video RAM, while the Acer Aspire 5942 laptop models use ATI Radeon HD5650 graphics card with a 1GB.
Aspire notebook has a 640GB hard drive capacity reaches, a DVD SuperMulti burner or Blu-ray drive and the multi-in-1 card reader.
Both models of this laptop is also very powerful because it is equipped with Dolby Surround Sound System technology plus the Acer Tuba CineBass Booster, 3rd Generation Optimized Dolby Home Theater Audio Enhancement and True 5.1-channel sound output. Amazingly, the laptop model is Aspire 5942 has stereo speakers while the Aspire 8942 models even have 5 pieces speaker. Wow! It can be ascertained in terms
of sound quality and graphics, the two models you can count on later.
In addition, there are also connectivity features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and WiMAX. Another feature is its HDMI output, ExpressCard/54, 1 eSATA port, Crystal Eye Webcam, Acer Bio-Protection Fingerprint Reader and DVB-T tuner. The 18.4-inch screen of the Aspire 8942 offers Full HD resolution of 1920 × 1080 and the Aspire 5942 15.6-inch screen offer a resolution of 1366 × 768. Both notebooks support for Bluetooth, WiFi and optional WiMAX and they have a HDMI output, an ExpressCard/54 slot, an eSATA port, Crystal Eye webcam, Acer Bio-Protection fingerprint reader and an optional DVB-T tuner.
Acer Aspire 594
An integrated Blu-ray disc drive adds to the multimedia potential of the Acer Aspire 5942, however, allowing you to watch the latest high-definition movies. While you cannot write data to Blu-ray discs, the drive does function as as standard dual-layer DVD and CD rewriter, for creating your own discs.
Often the level of power on offer here comes at the cost of poor mobility, so it’s a pleasant surprise to find the Acer Aspire 5942 ran for 210-minutes. At 3.1kg it isn’t a machine for regular mobile use, but it’s an impressive and useful feat that Acer has so effectively maximized battery life.
Usability is another strong suit of the Acer Aspire 5942. The backlit keyboard has its keys raised high above the chassis and well separated, making it easy to type at speed. A touch-sensitive control panel is also fitted on the right-hand side of the keyboard for easy control of your music and movies.
Storage is another area where the Acer Aspire 5942 machine excels. A stunning 640GB of hard drive storage is on offer, so even the most ardent multimedia collectors will be well catered for. A fingerprint reader is also in place, for adding a layer of biometric security to your most valuable files.
Backing up files to external drives is also made easy by the inclusion of eSATA compatibility on one of the Acer Aspire 5942 chassis’ four USB ports, allowing stable, high-speed data transfers. An integrated
webcam rounds out the features, for staying in touch with friends and family online.
By packing impressive power and features into a comparatively portable chassis, the Acer Aspire 5942G-524G64Bn is a fantastic home media centre. While it is not the most affordable Blu-ray machine on the
market, it is certainly one of the most powerful and very difficult to fault.
Powered by one of Intel’s cutting-edge Core i5 processors, the Acer Aspire 5942 is one of the most powerful laptops you can buy at this price. Designed for fast and effective multi-tasking, it made light work of our benchmark tests and effortlessly runs even the most demanding software tasks.
Graphics performance is just as impressive. The dedicated ATi graphics card is designed for smooth processing of HD video and is fully DirectX 11-compatible. As a result, gaming and frequent media editing
tasks are handled with ease, making the Acer Aspire 5942 a powerful media centre.

Acer Aspire 8942G
The case is plastic and was well built. The highly polished surfaces are very sensitive and tend to get dirty soon. The dark blue cover, white illuminated keyboard and palm rest points give a rough look nice. Not much to complain about in terms of stability, except in some places of the display cover. The hinges are stable and favorably the large screen. However, the case fluctuates in part in consideration of a weight of almost 4 pounds and we must say that the opening angles are very limited.
Connectivity
Connectivity is generous and you will find connections to almost any type of device. Most of these are located on the left. The advantage for right-hander will automatically be a disadvantage for lefties. It
starts with the power, then the RJ-45 Gigabit LAN and VGA. You have an image above the door and display the HDMI connection. A combo eSATA / USB, USB 2.0 and FireWire port. Three audio inputs (line-in,
microphone, headphones + S / PDIF) and a 54mm ExpressCard slot which completes this side. An infra-red receiver for remote controls and a 5-in-1 cardreader that reads SD, MMC, XD, MS Pro and MS are on the
front. Finally on the right, as usual, a normal DVD burner, three USB 2.0 ports (which are too far forward for my taste) and a Kensington lock. The package is completed with a WLAN and Bluetooth wireless from
the point of view. In addition, the Aspire 8942G also has a 1 megapixel webcam and a fingerprint reader.
Software
As always, Acer has filled dozens of the system (often useless) programs. However, after removing this bulky ballast makes the system very fast.
Keyboard
The keyboard is pleasant to use even after several hours. Typing is very quick and easy thanks to the race to bar states. Due to the fact that Acer uses a good layout, the keys have a good size and the Aspire
8942G has a numeric keypad, which will soon be using. Moreover, the ‘white lighting of the keyboard provides a perfect orientation in the dark is more complete. But there are two painful notes: Both the cursor to the left shift key is too small. One strength of control elements is the handy multimedia control to the right of the keyboard.
The volume bar attracts a very big vision in particular.
Touchpad
Acer has placed too far left but the touchpad is compelling for its size. Due to the rather sensitive sliding performance are guaranteed. On the other hand the functions and scroll gestures are sometimes not quite perfect. Both mouse buttons are below the touchpad are good but in terms of pressure point and noise, but could have been done better.
Display
While the FullHD display 18.4-inch 8940G dell’Aspio there had kidnapped because of poor brightness of 155.5 cd / m 2 and the disappointing 67% of the lighting, the display dell’Aspio 8942G reveals higher, although still not been produced adequate results. The contrast of 189:1 and the black value of 1.06 cd / m 2 may be
considered satisfactory. The average brightness of 195 cd / m 2 is slightly better than its predecessor, but the ‘lighting has been improved considerably to reach the’ 86%. Overall, the quality of the display is too high, but even bankruptcy. Subjectively, the colors are quite natural and saturated and the image bright enough and rich contrast. Only the black level is not optimal and it leaves a bitter taste, especially in dark scenes.
Performance
Acer has used exclusively for mid-range components of the Aspire 8492G. The CPU is part of the latest developments and has been named Intel Core i3-330M . The i3-330M has two processor cores with a clock
rate of 2.13 GHz. Differently from the i5 Core and Core i7 does not have the turbo boost. This is unfortunate, because many current games are fluid with 2:40 GHz At least 330M-i3 has hyperthreading technology
that simulates two additional CPU cores. But the advantage is still limited in games, for some applications while the benefits can be seen clearly. Energy consumption in the upper part of the mainstream, but still acceptable with a value of 35 watts as the i3-330M has an integrated graphics chip, called the GMA HD. Unlike the processor chip, but is not made with the 32nm process to 45nm dated. In addition, the i3-330M can make use of 512 Kbytes L3 cache as well as 3 MB L3 cache. To support the processor are also the usual 4 GB (2x 2048 MBytes) DDR3 RAM, which can be fully exploited thanks to the 64-bit operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium).
Acer relies on the graphics card to the new brand, now available in large quantities Mobility Radeon HD 5650 from ATI. The HD 5650 is the successor of compelling HD 4650 and now also supports DirectX 11 and
DirectX 10.1 not just as the previous one. The process of implementation is reduced by moving to 40nm 15 nm.
Unfortunately, the 128 bit has not been modified therefore too small a memory interface becomes a bottleneck with DDR3 video memory used.
Modern games require at least 256 MB DDR3 memory to be connected to the VRAM. If you use 128-bit interfaces, then you should use a fast GDDR5 VRAM (with a much higher bandwidth) as video memory. As we saw in the review of the Toshiba Qosmio X500, the performance of 20% has differences between the GDDR3 and GDDR5. In short, the memory interface 128-bit plus (G) DDR3 VRAM is currently considered to be
fashioned.
Noise
A big advantage is its moderate 8942G dell’Aspio development of noise in quiet environments. The laptop is not very noticeable in idle mode with 32.5-33.1 dB (A). The ‘hard disk is almost drowned by the noise
of the fan, with its 33.1 dB (A). The volume is increased, but never uncomfortable with a level of 34.0-34.1 dB (A) under load. The optical drive feels more when projecting DVDs with 35.0 dB (A). However, the drive becomes very noisy when accessing data and bother with a noise level high.
Also annoying: the fan of the case is, as mentioned, fairly quiet and runs smoothly emitting only some noise. The only noise you hear when you put your ear to the case. However our prototype could be an exception. In comparison, the Aspire 8940G stands out for its 45.4 dB (A) under load.
Temperature
Not only the noise stands out nicely over its competitors, but also the surface temperatures. Both the bottom, with a maximum of 22.1 ° C, the upper one, with a maximum of 23.6 ° C, remains pleasantly cool in
idle mode. The bottom hardly gets warm under load with just 26.0 ° C.
You can keep your knees without hesitation 8942G – until of course the weight will not be heard. The upper side sometimes warms up to 31.2 ° C under load (area of the left wrist). 31.2 ° C have a high temperature, but not annoying to the palms of your hands. The Aspire 8940G is very hot with a maximum temperature of 41.1 ° C on the bottom and 42.0 ° C on the top.
Speakers
Most notebooks are completely inadequate when it comes to sound quality of speakers. The Aspire 8942G does not deserve blame many thanks to built-in 5.1, which includes a subwoofer, called Tuba, can provide a sound above average. Consequently, the maximum volume delivered is more than enough on the one hand (although the sound may be distorted if you overdo it). On the other hand, each peak appears to be well balanced (though we tend too much treble) and the sound is quite clear and precise than other laptops. Consequently, the sound system, can be used with the support of a Dolby Home Theater, is also used for listening to music, movies and games.
