PQI ( Power Quotient International ) recently releases a pair of ruby USB external Solid State Drives (SSD). The larger of the pair is also the faster sporting USB 3.0 interface and faster SSD memory. The MLC flash within the PQI S533-E can read at 236MB/s and write at 86 MB/s.
In contrast, the S532-E has both mini-USB 2.0 and SATA-II for both internal and external use. The Turbo HDD USB software also helps both USB SSD drives boosting greater speeds and is likely similar in function to Buffalo’s TurboUSB drivers.
The PQI S533-E is USB 3.0 capable but is still USB 2.0 compatible. You can get the S533-E in either 80 or 160 GB capacities while the S532-E is only available in 40GB.The S533-E measures 128 x 82.5 x 17 mm and weights 170 grams, has a metallic casing, a USB 3.0 interface, and can deliver read and write speeds of up to 250 MB/s and 80 MB/s, respectively. The expected price tag for this drive is $275.
The S533-E is using SSDs as their data storage media. Use of this SSD media certainly bring fresh air for those who need a portable storage media with high velocity. In theory, the SSD has a transfer rate of up
to 6 Gb / s. PQI formats its drive in FAT32 for compatibility across multiple operating systems and puts FNet TurboHDD software on that partition. A software license is included on a small slip of paper in the box. Because users are unlikely to have this software installed for every system on which they connect a portable drive, we tested the drive both with and without the added software.
Other SSD advantages are having a greater transfer rate, quiet, and issued no vibration. It is influenced by the system of SSDs that do not work using moving parts, such as disk on your hard disk. Instead, use NAND flash memory which has a large transfer rate and access time is small. Design on this E-S533 series looks interesting, like the use of metal casing to assist heat dissipation and size that makes it easy to be taken away. Unfortunately, PQI only provide one option on the S533-E color, namely red metallic.
USB 3.0 port (type A) used is not like most USB 3.0 storage (Micro-B).

seconds of time in random write test. Meanwhile, when Turbo HDD is turned off, these products are listed time of 14.4 seconds. It seems, features Turbo HDD provided still not able to function optimally for the moment.
